You may’ve seen our recent piece on celeb siblings and their dating habits, if you didn’t’ – why the devil not?! It was excellent – check it out… Anyway, we revisit in depth, Luke and Owen Wilson, celebrity long-term bachelors – and potential commitment phobes? Let’s examine the facts…

Easy on the eye, appearing in a string of box-office smash-hits, including chick-flick favourite Legally Blonde, hilarious Old School and the riotous Anchorman and cultivating an on-screen persona that just oozes ‘niceness’ while still managing to retain the cool-guy factor, it’s not difficult to see why the baby of the Wilson brothers, Luke Wilson, is deemed hot property So, we beg to ask, just why hasn’t some lucky lady snapped up this extremely eligible prime cut of Hollywood rump?

Luke seems to have a track record of scoring high in the dating stakes, enjoying previous relationships with some of Tinseltown’s finest, including A-Listers Drew Barrymore and Gwyneth Paltrow. Subsequent hook-ups with fellow actress Joy Bryant and Playboy Playmate Audra Lynn also came to nothing…

Despite expressing a wish to become a family man, telling US Weekly back in July ‘10 that he’s working on the whole ‘growing up thing’ – including marriage and babies, he admitted a major stumbling block…  “I’ve got to find the girl, No. 1. And then I’ve got to somehow make her believe in me — that’s going to take a couple of years,” he says, laughing. “I’ve got to BS her into thinking I’ve got my [stuff] together.”

Is it a commitment issue? An over-enthusiastic propensity towards not getting his fingers burnt? Luke himself is aware of the potential impact on his advancing years in relation to his single-status saying in the same interview … “Well, hell, Anthony Quinn had kids when he was 80. I shouldn’t be in a hurry. But I don’t want to have to pay a neighborhood kid to throw the football with my kid.”

So what about the older, goofier, kind of weird looking yet strangely attractive brother Owen Wilson? While Luke appears to do his utmost to keep his private life that way, Owen seems to court controversy, some might even say he’s as famous for his off-screen romantic escapades as his on-screen acting antics.

Linked to some major Hollywood players including Demi Moore and Sheryl Crow, he’s probably most famous his notorious on-off relationship with Kate Hudson and all its highs and lows… The couple initially went public in August ’06. Though often photographed looking carefree and happy, through the duration of the relationship were frequent reports that Owen had trouble committing, that Kate was set to break his heart and that neither of the couple’s families were too enthused about their union…

The couple split the following year and what followed was extremely sad and shocking; Owens much publicized suicide attempt, said to be directly as a result of the break up. He never discussed the incident, aside from issuing a statement at the time, saying, “I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.”

They eventually gave things another shot, however this particular pairing of bubbly blondes wasn’t to be and they finally parted ways in ’09 after several periods of yo-yo dating. Kate went on to find lasting love with Muse front man Matt Bellamy. Owen appeared to be finally letting go of his Butterscotch Stallion reputation, when it was announced in January ’11 that he’d not only been dating air marshal Jade Duell, but she was due to give birth to their son imminently.

Gleefully embracing fatherhood, he told Entertainment Tonight, “They’re so fragile, but then when it is your own, all of a sudden you feel a lot more confident. You really do have this bond; this real connection with this thing that a month ago wasn’t even here, it is strange… Their cries are like beautiful music!” His relationship with the mother of his child wasn’t quite as melodic and the couple parted ways just five months after the birth of baby Robert amongst speculation that Owen, now forty-two-years-old, was suffering with – that’s rightcommitment issues…

So why do we think the Wilson brothers seem doomed to exist as eternal bachelors, ferociously guarding their independence and avoiding domesticity like the plague? Can we say commitment phobia? It tends to be one of the more rational phobias – in comparison let’s say to sufferers of Allodoxaphobia; a fear of opinions or Ithyphallophobia; a fear of seeing, thinking about or having an erect penis…

It’s rational in that common concerns associated with the phobia, for example; loss of personal and financial independence, lowering of emotional boundaries and trepidation over feeling ‘trapped’ in the relationship should it turn sour are all potentially realistic implications of a committed relationship.

The main dilemmas of those deemed ‘commitment phobes’ are primarily anxiety based and relate to a fear of the unknown; a series of negative ‘…what ifs?’ and a lack of confidence in their own ability to handle certain relationship situations usually based on witnessing other dysfunctional relationships or their own past experiences.

It’s because of this that people with commitment issues often seem to be ‘emotionally unavailable’ and will either leave a relationship before things get too serious or take an emotional backseat.

While typically associated with young males, fear of commitment can occur in either gender at any age – and it won’t necessarily magically resolve itself. Though if somebody with commitment issues feels that they’re the only thing holding back a potentially positive union, by recognizing their mindset, wishing to change it and seeking the appropriate counseling, there’s absolutely no reason why they cannot go on to have a fruitful and rewarding relationship.

So guys, if you do intend on building on your empire of beautiful blonde babies that go on to make wonderfully supportive spouses, we’d like to suggest that you seek a little assistance with your issues and get started. We’re confident more Wilson could only make the world a better place.

Selma: So much can be said about circumstance. This is the case for love, relationships and most importantly… sports. Maybe the Wilson brothers don’t want to find the typical kind of love from the girly girls of Hollywood. Yes, Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow are hot… but maybe all they want is someone to watch the big game with. I recommend this DiscoveryGame for any girl looking to get with the Wilson brothers. They won’t play the game by your rules, so try another approach!

Giulia: Who isn’t apart of a blended family these days, honestly?! It’s the new norm. Families are complex and there are quite a few different dynamics going on… sometimes even more then we can keep up with. I recommend this DiscoveryGame for the next lucky lady to catch the eye of Owen Wilson. Play this game to discover your thoughts and opinions on being apart of his blended family!
